ACADEMIC INTEGRITY
Academic integrity violations can include plagiarism, cheating, and unauthorized group work on any assignment, project, or test. If a student is caught the following will occur:
|
LATE WORK:
If an assignment is not turned in on time, the highest grade possible is a 70%. For each additional week, the grade will drop 10 percentage points.
MAKEUP WORK:
It is your responsibility to collect and complete assignments for the days you are absent. When you return after an absence:

GRADING SCALE
Your grade in this class will be calculated on a weighted scale. The value of each category is as follows:
Assessments = 70%
Tests Quizzes Projects Portfolios In Class Discussions aka Verbal Assessments |
Preparations = 30%
Homework Daily Class Work Notebook |
Homework/Daily Class Work:
You will do work in this class every day. Some days you will do a collaboration, exercise, or assignment in class; others you will do an exercise/assignment for homework. These assignments are meant to provide you with the information and practice that you will need in order to master the material.
Tests:
There will be at least one test for each unit. The main points of my tests are to provide you with test taking practice and to determine whether you have mastered the material.
Quizzes:
You will typically have at least one quiz per week. The purpose of which is to determine if you have been doing the required readings and work.
Projects/Portfolio:
Every unit you will be assigned at least one project. These projects will be compiled into a Portfolio and checked periodically throughout the year. A 1-1.5 inch binder should suffice for this.
Students will play the role of a Human Geographer/Cultural Critic. Their portfolio will serve as their professional resume. The goal being for the students to develop the 21st century geographic and cultural skills needed to be an asset in future job markets.
Notebook:
You will need a standard 2 inch three-ring binder. In your notebook you will keep all of your returned assignments, quizzes, journal entries, class notes, and study material for the year. Before each test there will be a notebook check. For every assignment, quiz, journal entry, and study material missing from your notebook you will have points taken off of your notebook grade.
Verbal Assessment:
In class participation in discussions will earn you up to two points per week. This will add up to 18 total points for the nine weeks, which is generally the equivalent of a quiz. Active participation will give you two points, partial participation will give you one point, and if you never contribute then you will not receive any points for that week. Also, verbal warnings for breaking classroom rules will result in deducted points.
